Shortcut to .com websites not as prominent in latest operating system.
The only device my daughter has used to visit a website is the iPad. So when I let her use my laptop one day, she looked at the keyboard with a puzzled look.
“Where’s the dot com key, daddy?” she asked.
A lot of people are now asking that same question as Apple has ditched the button in the new iOS7 operating system update. That’s a pretty big deal for the domain name industry.
.Com is still there, but it’s hidden. And it’s one of five top level domain choices available on the keyboard.
If you press and hold the . button, here’s what happens:
As you can see, .com is still the first option. But .net, .edu, .org, and .us also make an appearance. As of now, none of the newer TLDs are on there, even though some have more registrations .edu. (I also assume the ccTLD shows up based on your country.)
Will this button someday also show .apple?

Safari merged the search and URL field too. Incorporates a “suggestion” type of thing that google does. So even if you are typing in a domain, it’s giving you search type of stuff down below.. . . leading a possible type-in over to search. bad

In the UK they see “.co.uk” and “.ie”as well as “.uk” by itself, curious if apple is able to change these on the fly or if they are hardcoded..

System should do statistics what kind of extensions the user uses the most and offer these top extensions.

Jony Ive is a moron. No one likes iOS7. If you look at Chrome there is a .com .net and / button at the top.
Jony didn’t want to add the functionality because “muh design grid.”
He is a autist that has no idea what he is doing. The parallax effect is just them mimicking android and adding a non-feature. This is the exact opposite of the Jobs mantra, of not adding anything that doesn’t have a purpose. Jony Ive did the most horrible thing to iOS in general. On the iPad the biggest question I see is how do I downgrade to iOS 6.

While I don’t agree Ive is a moron, I do agree that iOS 7 is a major stumble for Apple. Samsung’s marketing dept should win an award for making sheeple believe those atrocious android phones seem like they’re even in the same league with the iPhone. Looks like now that Steve’s gone Apple is freaking out trying to copy the copycats b/c there’s no one left to point out that Samsung isn’t wearing any clothes.

Nice find!

I wouldn’t say they dropped it. I’d say they hid it.

Perhaps .LA will appear when using iOS7 in LA.
