New TLD applicants still far from generating revenue.
ICANN signed its first registry agreements for new top level domains this week, but a press release from portfolio applicant Top Level Domain Holdings is a reminder that many new TLDs are a long way to fruition.
The release states:
Top Level Domain Holding anticipates contracts will be signed with ICANN for the first nine uncontested domain applications in which it has an interest before the end of Q1 2014, with a further eight before the end of 2014, and the remaining five uncontested applications in which the Company presently has an interest in the first half of 2015.
Since TLDH is referring to uncontested applications, much of the delay will be due to the prioritization numbers it has for each string. The release refers to ICANN’s plans to sign about 20 contracts per week.
Antony Van Couvering says
Actually we’ll sign some well before Q1 2014, but we think we’ll have signed nine before the end of Q1.
