DigiMedia and Name Ninja help Upfront Ventures get Upfront.com domain name.
TechCrunch is reporting today about venture capital firm GRP Partners raising a fresh $200 million round and changed its name to Upfront Ventures.
Smartly, the VC firm also picked up the domain name Upfront.com as part of the rebrand.
I hadn’t heard about the domain name changing hands, so I started digging into DomainTools’ historical whois records to find out the backstory.
It turns out two familiar names played a role in getting this domain name in the hands of Upfront Ventures.
Historical records show that Scott Day’s DigiMedia.com, L.P. sold the domain name. DigiMedia.com, L.P. owns one of the world’s finest portfolios of premium generic domain names.
Bill Sweetman’s new consulting firm Name Ninja also played a role. The historical record on June 7 shows Name Ninja as the registrant, with an email address showing it was in escrow.
Congrats to DigiMedia on the sale and to Name Ninja for bringing the deal to fruition.
