Record price paid for Texas vanity plate is $15,000, a far cry from the UAE.
I know several domainers were interested in license plate auctions in the United Arab Emirates. Who wouldn’t be shocked to see license plates sell for millions of dollars?
It turns out the state of Texas has been doing the same thing — although it’s not nearly as lucrative.
The record sale to date is “Ferrari”, which sold for $15,000.
This month’s vanity license plate auction will feature ten plates, most of which are trademarks. But these license plates aren’t being used commercially, like a (potentially) cybersquatted domain name.
Which of these license plates do you think will sell for the most?
Houston
Maybach
Boxter
Bentley
Carrera
Rockets
Dynamo
Phantom
Texan5
Indy Car

Has anyone here tried to sell a domain name to an Arab ?.Very very hard to get them to part with anything near a reasonable price, yet some of them will part with millions for vanity Registration Plates. If only they liked domains as much.
Andrew Allemann says
Houston sold for $25k, Rockets for $16.5k, and Bentley for $10k.

So I guess TMs are off limits when it comes to domains, but when it comes to a state profiting off famous TMs on a license plate that is fine…
