A one page word doc is all it takes.
Domain Name Wire was first to report back in June that ICANN was working on a plan to allow new top level domain applicants to modify their applications.
Now the guidelines and process are complete.
Applicants must fill out a short, one page form explaining the change and the reason for the request. They also must attached a redlined document of the changes they’re making.
The request will be considered against seven factors, including if the change will adversely affect other applicants.
So far ICANN reports there have been 57 requests for changes to applications. Some of the known ones are:
1. VeriSign changing its Hebrew .com transliteration
2. Kerry Trading Company correcting the spelling of “logistics”
3. DotConnect Africa changing from .dotafrica to .africa
The first two should be no problem given ICANN’s criteria; the third is questionable.
Applicants should note that any changes may result in a delay in evaluation.
