Site hit with domain dispute.
The Huffington Post Union of Bloggers (HPUB), a site and organization formed by former Huffington Post bloggers and other writers, may lose its main domain name.
A case against HuffingtonPostUnionofBloggers.org was filed at National Arbitration Forum today, presumably by HuffPo owner AOL.
While the site owns the shorter HPUB.org domain name, it forwards that name to the longer one, and the longer one is what’s indexed by Google. Losing the long domain name would be a blow to the site.
The site seems to be made up of jaded ex HuffPo writers — mostly who were volunteers or uncompensated writers — although it invites anyone to join and write fo rit. And, its FAQ makes it clear, the company supports Occupy Wall Street. In fact, I’d say its FAQ is about as clear as Occupy Wall Street’s disjointed message.
Although the web site doesn’t appear to have any ads, I’d be surprised if AOL doesn’t win this one. At the end of the day HPUB is basically a rip-off of Huffington Post.
