Handful of domain name registrations point to defensive registrations for “Proactiv Recall”.
[Update: yes, there’s a recall.] Proactiv — the acne control company that apparently keeps Justin Beiber’s skin clear — may be making some “proactive” domain name acquisitions.
Yesterday a client of brand protection company MarkMonitor registered a number of domain names related to “Proactiv Recall”, including ProactivRecall.com, proactivrecall.org, proactivrecall.info, Proactiv-Recall.com, and similar versions of the domain names with Proactiv misspelled with an ‘e’ at the end. [Update 10/17: this is getting more interesting. The company just registered proactivbottlereplacement.com]
Although it’s not for sure that Proactive marketer Guthy-Renker LLC is behind the registrations, the company’s main Proactiv.com registration is managed by MarkMonitor. These may also be merely defensive registrations and not indicative of a recall.
Proactiv has used celebrity endorsements and a continuity marketing model to go mainstream. In addition to Justin Beiber, some of the company’s other spokesmodels over the years include include Jessica Simpson, Katy Perry, and Avril Lavigne.

What keeps Justin Bieber’s skin clear is a failure to reach puberty.

That Proactiv must be really good. A little harsh for sensitive skin.

My fiance works for Proactiv and she was told by her boss tonight that they would have to check every piece of inventory they have and run it against codes to see if serial numbers match. If they have any matches, then they have to throw out the inventory. They will not tell anyone why though. Something is definitely up.

I opened my recall letter from Proactiv last night and called this morning. This looks like a massive recall, which “only affects” the cleanser and Repairing Lotion. We have 8 bottles of this and 7 were included in the recall.

I wonder how far back this recall should go…How long have people been using it and it’s not up to par…paying $50.00 per month for nothing……

I have been complaining the last couple of months about the breakouts I have been dealing with lately. I had been wondering if I should continue to pay for and use Pro-Activ if it isn’t working any longer. Then I received the voluntary recall notice in the mail. I have bought product ahead of both the Repairing Treatment and Daily Cleansing Wash so that I have it in my shower and at my sink. So I have two almost full bottles of both that are on the recall list. Now I have to wait another 3-4 weeks to receive new products and it is a bunch of bologna. They will send me a “return box and label.” Then they will send me new product once the old is received. Are you kidding me, I’ve already paid an arm and leg for the products I have and they’re defective. I wonder what the real truth is? Did they leave out the “activ” ingredients? I currently have four large blemishes and fifth coming under my nose just in time for Christmas and at over $20 dollars a month. Give me a break! Send out new products to everyone who purchased your “defective” products in the last three months, at the very least to the ones that respond to your recall, Pro-Activ! Don’t make us wait, you know we already purchased the products and entered the numbers from the bottle to prove it. Then if we don’t return the bottles, charge our accounts. Unless you don’t have any product available that aren’t “defective.” Could that be the problem?
FRUSTRATED! says
I too have SIX of these ‘defective’ bottles! Not only do I feel that they are being beyond ‘secretive’ and far from “ProActive” (pun intended) …. they are making US do all the work!! Punch in all the codes from the bottles’ bottoms, that took quite a while, but then we need to WAIT for THEIR return package to arrive at our address, before we can send the bad products back!! 2-3 weeks there, THEN we need to wait longer to get the NEW products! OF COURSE they have this information in their data-base already! They just know a lot of people won’t take the time and effort to jump through all their hoops, in order to get the ‘good product’ sent to us!! They could or SHOULD have INCLUDED THE DEFECTIVE CODE LOT numbers in the original letter they sent us all! So we could look immediately at our stock at home to see what we needed to replace! But NO, we have to do the busy work first. I agree with the previous comment, they DON’T have the amount of “GOOD PRODUCT” yet available to send out to us all! All this “wait time” and hoops to jump through, is just giving them more time to get their production act together and make enough good products to ship out again! I also had been wondering “WHY?!” it wasn’t working as well for me anymore! Many new breakouts, that I’ve not had in years!! Do we ‘freeze’ our regular shipments…until we know the good stuff is out and being shipped again? I’m almost wanting to try some of the other new lines of very similar products that have been advertising recently! ProActive has had a monopoly on a large market for MANY years!! Other companies realized that there was a place for similar “3-step skin care systems” and there are more rivals there now to consider!
Their deliberate hush-hush of this problem in the media upsets me the most I think. Because they have used the media so extensively to market themselves! Info-mercials, then the ‘new’ Pro-Active came out, then the “extra-strength” arrived and the “kiosks” in the malls and airports….they just focused so much on growth and expansion, that they forgot the most important thing, IT NEEDS TO WORK, consistently! Very disappointed…!

You have a recall..I recieved the mailing envelope to return product, but did not write down the numbers, and MOST inconveniently your reply letter does NOT repeat that information. Please provide the address to look this up AGAIN.

I am so angry about them keeping this so called recall a secret. I live in Australia and I purchased 2 of my Proactiv kits online from e-bay. I checked all the serial numbers against this site:
http://pabottlereplacement.com/
and all my bottles are defective. Just to also point out, some of these bottles are over a year old so how long has this been going on for? I contacted Consumer Affairs in Australia to tell them that Proactiv will not replace my bottles because I purchased them online from e-bay. Consumer Affairs said that it is not the responsibility of the e-bay seller to replace the Cleanser and Repairing lotion, it’s Proactiv’s responsibility. I then went back to Proactiv Australia and this time spoke to a Manager at the Company who was quite rude and still refused to replace my items. I now have to go back to Consumer Affairs and write a written letter of complaint which they will take up with the Company.
I have also taken my story to the television networks and have already heard back from one of them. If these people want a fight they have one! I will also be posting this information on facebook and twitter because I feel that the public have a right to know that their products may be defective like yours and mine. I can’t believe that after using this product for well over 8-years that they can’t be bothered to do the right thing by their Customers.. Useless Company!

I sent all 4 bottles back the beginning of December and still have not received my replacement . I keep calling and was advised it was in the mail. Called today again, Jan 16th and now advised it’s not been mailed yet. They advised they needed to transfer me to shipping. Just keep getting transferred to wrong departments. Spoke with supervisor Savanah who advised I needed to contact the recall number. Advised her they transferred me to them. She advised she would try to reach them after I told her she needs to contact them and get this resolved. Did not hear back from her today.
STILL FRUSTRATED!! says
I too sent my bottles back, in their “special bags” supplied to me by ProActive in December. I’m still waiting for my “new supply” of replacement products. In the mean time, I agree with Melissa in Australia, I don’t believe they have enough of the “good product” produced yet to mail out our new bottles! I’m having doubts about whether I want to continue with them, despite the good results I’ve had for many years! It seems to me they just are too “GROWTH” oriented and lost control of their quality checks. Their new “lighter” and “Stronger” versions, then their Kiosks in Malls across the nation and airports as well. They’ve just lost their focus on good product. PLUS CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! Very poor communications, no offers of free NEW products in the future for OUR inconvenience. They ccontiure to advertise massively on T.V. as NOTHING has gone wrong at all! My husband says we should all band together and try to get a “Class Action Law Suit” started because there are 100’s of 1,000’s of us impacted by this!
WHY isn’t it on National News yet????

Proactiv pulled a VERO on all eBay sellers in December that were selling in Europe because Benzoyl Perozide is banned in the European Union. Than QVC held up all Proactiv orders. Than Proactiv pulled VERO on all Ebay sellers for copyright infringements this past month so if you were not selling in Europe they slapped you with copyright infrongements dating all the way back to November. Now in January 24,2012 QVC sent us all letters recall on every Proactiv product Gunther Renky States ‘they were doing a voluntary recall in cooperation with FDA an expiration date recall. Certain lot nimbers of these products may not retain there strength the entire shelf life indicated on product label.’ I received 7 letters stating the above. For every Auto Delivery I have with QVC. I couldn’t understand what the heck was going on
