Domain marketplace known for small ticket sales scores a big one.
Afternic is known for selling lots of domain names for a couple thousand dollars each. Not only is its expertise in high volume sales, but it also rarely gets to disclose its six figure sales.
That’s (sort of) the case with its latest big sale for $540,000 — the company can’t disclose the actual name.
But the company says it sold within 3 weeks of being listed with Afternic and the seller’s representative was Craig Pollack.
Afternic says it has a number of domains recently placed exclusively with the company:
Renovate.com
HomeMortgages.com
Bachelors.com
Exercising.com
Snowboarders.com
Administrators.com
Whitener.com
Retrievers.com, Beagles.com, and Dalmatian.com

I’ll bet it has something to do with cloud

Mansour says
do you mean they sold all 10 domains for lumpsum of $540,000.?
Andrew Allemann says
Mansour – it was 1 domain for $540k. These other domains are now under exclusive contract to sell.

Anyone know if most of these Afternic sales are from the basic “DLS network” listings or their special “DLS premium” service ?
Debating whether it’s worth doing their basic, since my registrars aren’t supported for their premium service.
Andrew Allemann says
@ M – it doesn’t hurt, and I’ve sold some domains through them before Premium was even around. But it might be worth finding a registrar that supports DLS Premium.

@M — DLS is adding registrars every month. We expect to make some exciting announcements very soon…So your registrar could be coming on board quite soon.
I’ll suggest that you call and speak with someone at Afternic to learn more: 1-866-351-9586 (Toll Free) +1 781-839-7990 (Worldwide).

How does the Afternic “DLS premium” program compare to having domains @ GoDaddy & utilizing their “Premium Domains” listing service?
Since GoDaddy has about 50% market share of all new domain registrations, does that necessarily equate to more ‘eyeballs’ potentially seeing your ‘premium domain’ at GoDaddy VERSUS one of the Afternic DLS partner registrars?
Would you recommend moving domains from GoDaddy to an Afternic Partner Registrar? (or visa versa)?
Ellen O'Brien says
Steve,
We are seeing that “Instant Domain Transfer” capabilities are having a big impact on domains sold…By removing traditional escrow barriers “end users” are more willing to purchase–at a premium–which is a win-win for both buyer and seller. They get a great name with no delays, and the seller realizes the cash. As I said: we’re adding partners all the time, so the DLS value proposition is only improving…
