Go Daddy home page past and present.
I was doing some research on DomainTools recently when I came across thumbnails of the GoDaddy.com home page going back to 2004. It tells and interesting story; seeing the thumbnails right next to each other shows how the site became incredibly cluttered from 2005-2009 before “opening” up again.
As a point of reference, here’s GoDaddy.com a few weeks ago:
Here’s the home page at the height of cluttered-ness in 2005-2006:
Yikes!
In 2007-2009 the home page gradually started to open up. But there was an unfortunate period where lots of the page had a black background, like this shot from 2009:

Who was the blonde woman they always had on the page? Was she a spokesmodel, or just a stock photo?

It’s still too cluttered and confusing. Slower loading on a crappy connection than any other registrar. If I have to do something at GoDaddy I have to set aside time for it.

They should get GoDaddyPro.com (like Sedo) and have a domain professional version of their site to makethings easier on those of us that wat to come an do business and register or manage more than 1 domain name. I’m sure we make up enough of the registration base that it would be worthwhile or them to do.

Dreadful name. Dreadful logo. Dreadful design. Dreadful marketing (eg cars and GoDaddy Girls). Dreadful interface design.
And the most successful registrar in the world.
Hands in the air, clearly I have no idea. It makes me depressed.
