Ryan Colby scores 3D.com brokerage contract.
Whether or not you think 3D is the next big thing in entertainment (and a lot of domainers apparently think so), you have to admit that the domain name 3D.com is a winner.
Sedo domain broker Ryan Colby just got the domain name under an exclusive brokerage contract to sell.
Compete.com estimates that the site gets thousands of unique visitors per month, and that’s without an active web site.
Take a look at 3D.com to view one of the most in-depth domain sales pitch landing pages I think I’ve ever seen. The sale pitch is intricate and snazzy, but I think it takes way too long to get to the punchline.
I’ve reached out to Ryan to see what the asking price is.
Rob says
yeah, over the top sales pitch if you ask me. they’d want some serious dough for this domain and a targetted buyer would already know (or refute!?!?) much of this stuff before making an offer. this presentation is more likely to amaze a retail customer. overkill. unnecessary.
Josh says
I thinjk its preety good, a serious buyer would watch it all any way. The only thing is… where the heck is the contact info at the end?
This is a great name, buy it before your comp does but first search for us!
Meyer says
Rob, do you think a vendor walks into
Walmart’s buying conference room and says
“do you want to buy this?”
No. A supplier makes his case.
How is this sale any different?
Additionally, why should we (domainers) know
the full potential for this domain?
Hate to say it but we don’t know everything.
I hope it sells.
Good luck to the seller and broker.

I agree:) Good Luck to the seller and broker!

Now is a good time to sell this name, a category killer no doubt, value $50,000 +

I think $50K is a very low starting value to place on this domain. I’d put it more at $500K +, with a potentially huge emphasis on the “+,” given the caliber of the companies who would have an interest in obtaining it. $50K to them would be chump change, and I’d be very surprised if it sold for so little. (I’d buy it at that price!)
Also, a PageRank of 4/10 for a domain without a website? If that isn’t a skewed statistic, it shows a lot of potential.
Josh says
Agree with Syd, you have to see no less then 6 figs on this name. Resellers pay good 5 figs for LN NL all the time so the $50k is very low, in fact a lot of domainers would pay $50k let alone major corps.
SL says
Agree with Syd too, at least $500k.
One thing that should be noted is that this a great presentation for monied folks that don’t know domains are for sale. The CNBC crowd isn’t out of the realm of possibility.
Having said that, where’s the money shot? Even a simple “Interested? Contact (broker info) for more info.” at the end would wrap it up nicely.
Overall it’s a beautiful presentation imho.

@meyer & others
yes, you will tell this stuff to interested buyers but i don’t think you give them this whole spiel right upfront on the landing page, and not for the average joe who navigates there.
your walmart example is perfect: the vendor and walmart have already contacted and “screened” each other, THEN they put their case forward in a subsequent meeting. they dont state some fine detail of their cases to the entire world over the internet and then start negotiating.
beautiful and good presentation? yes. but not then and there. later.

Looks like Syd was spot on with his guess…500K. Nice estimation in my book.
