Those with multiple symptoms asked to undergo testing.
The Los Angeles County Public Health Department has sent a new alert (pdf) to attendees of this month’s DOMAINfest conference giving explicit instructions for medical testing.
In an email to DOMAINfest attendees, the health department asked people who have multiple symptoms to ask their healthcare professionals for a battery of tests. The L.A. health department will perform these tests for free for locals.
The symptoms are: fever/chills, cough, shortness of breath, headache, and muscle pain.
Last week the department sent a survey to attendees with a goal of narrowing in on the source of the outbreak. The most recent email only refers to the Playboy Mansion party, not other events at the conference.
The L.A. Times reports that 170 people have told L.A. health officials they became ill following the conference.
For more information about the outbreak, I recommend reading Ron Jackson’s continuing coverage.
Sammy Ashouri says
Is there any mention of what it actually is? I ‘networked’ around the hotel and didn’t go to the Playboy Mansion.
Still, I didn’t exactly get ‘sick’ but my chest has been pretty congested, shortness of breath, and I get a random cough here and there. It has had me worried, but for the most part I’ve just shrugged it off.
Mason Cole says
Sammy, no, there’s no word yet from health authorities on what caused the illness or where it came from. Until the health authorities make a determination, everything else is just guessing. If you haven’t been contacted by the LA County Department of Public Health and asked to complete an online survey, please forward me your contact information and I’ll be sure you get the survey (mcole@oversee.net). If you’re not well, please seek the advice of your doctor.
