Jeff Kupietzky gives predictions for 2011.
This afternoon at DOMAINfest Global in Santa Monica Oversee.net CEO Jeff Kupietzky provided 10 prophecies for the domain name industry.
But first he reviewed Oversee.net’s results over the past year:
– Moniker had 10% revenue growth and growth in number of domains
– 50% growth in Oversee Aftermarket revenue
– 50 new employees
– 10% increase in revenue per click
1. Increase in premium domain sales in 2011 – predicts several $5M+ sales
2. Registry/Registrar integration – there will be vertical consolidation in 2011.
(Oversee.net doesn’t plan to go after new gTLDs but it will partner with gTLD applicants)
3. IPO window will open again – pointed out that the based of Demand Media is domain names
4. Record year of M&A from large tech companies looking to acquire innovation from smaller companies. Lots of cash in the bank at large companies.
5. Google will become more partner friendly — Google will face real competition that will change their approach to the channel.
6. Customer service will be killer application to leverage social networks for businesses — companies can use social networking to keep customers happy rather than for acquiring new customers.
7. Tablets within mobile will rise, and Apple size will be the winning form factor (he said 7″, but it’s actually 9.7″).
8. Faster Path to App – new site development will focus on reducing number of clicks to get to the actual application functionality.
9. Value of traffic will be assessed for its data value along with its current category RPM
10. Joke nod to Oversee sales team
The Big Cheese says
