Reporting timezone changes with search alliance.
Anyone who has a parking company using a Yahoo feed and all stats services have an added headache to deal with thanks to the switchover from Yahoo to Microsoft.
Until now both Yahoo and Google reported stats based on Pacific time. With the switchover Yahoo/Microsoft stats will now be reported at UTC/GMT.
This is only a one time headache for some companies, such as parking providers, that need to adjust their stats interface. In a message to customers, TrafficZ noted:
In addition, all reporting will transition from Pacific Time to UTC/GMT sometime near the end of the month. The exact date for this change has not yet been announced; however, when it takes effect you may notice a 7 hour lapse in reporting. This lapse will only be a shift due to the change in time standard; it will not affect stats or revenue.
Parking companies will need to sync this with their alternative feeds.
The change may pose a bigger challenge to services such as Above.com, which will need to find a way to sync stats across parking services.

Yahoo and Microsoft could be sold to Google within 3-5 years

I think Yahoo is damn falling apart in this merger.
Their TQ is all screwed up and they are showing bizarre stats and earnings…..as usual all in the favor of Yahoo and not in the favor of domainers.
Fuc*ing A Yahoo…..get your head out of your ass and fix your mess!

Yahoo revenue is tanking.

I wouldn’t really call the time change a headache, it will be confusing for a few days, but nothing very big.
I think some of the biggest changes will happen later, but so far everything I have seen with the migration has been positive. I’m sure there will be some negatives, but I’m pleasanty surprised with the outcomes so far.
The migration itself is another story…

Donny – do you guys currently report based on the ad feed providers’ time zone? For example, if one reports today as PDT and another UTM, do you report all of the revenue from those two ad feeds as ‘today’, even though technically one of them has a day that runs different hours?
Deke says
Good to hear Donny. Maybe there is some hope.
Maybe I’ the exception. My Yahoo experience has been less than stellar so far the last month or so.
