Membership offer good through the end of the month.
Afternic is again offering a free membership, a $19.95 value. The membership allows you to list domain names for sale on AfternicDLS, including Expanded and Premium promotion. Using these listing options enables you to get your domain name listed on a number of sites. Afternic’s partner sites include GoDaddy Auctions, Register.com, Network Solutions, and of course sister site BuyDomains. Premium promotion allows you to list domain names with fixed prices on various sites using “instant fulfillment”, where people can instantly purchase and take delivery of the domain names.
If you already list your domain names on Sedo, I recommend also listing them on AfternicDLS. The network reaches the end user market and the company extensively advertises to small businesses. The company says it processes 35 million monthly domain searches.
To get the free annual membership, send an email to PremiumPromotion@Afternic.com or call their Service Center at 1-866-351-9586 (US), +1 781-839-7990 (Worldwide) and mention the email offer for a free membership. The offer runs through the end of the month.

Still says $19.95 on their signup form.

@ Mike – you need to follow the instructions in the post to get the free membership.

Does anyone have a report done on the names that sell on Afternic? I remember DotWeekly did a search and a very high % of the names sold were owned by BuyDomains where as the small % were members domains. Seems they were suggesting buydomains would lure a customer to one of there own domains rather then a members which was never found to be true but got ya thinking.
I have a membership but stopped listing domains there since i never got an offer and get many more direct via email. is it really worth it even if free if most of the sales are not members?
Mike says
Thank you Andrew. Missed that. @Ricky – I do not think that Afternic shares sales information like they used to. I think they only share what they want to now.
Tim says
They really never seem to make any sales.
For every 50 I sell at Sedo I might sell one at Afternic.
Also, it seems they always want me to lower my prices on domains by sending a canned message saying, “In order to keep our service competitive…..blah, blah, blah……we need you to lower your price.” I’m not lowering my prices, dang it! Stop asking me.
I really don’t see how it is worth it even if it is free and you have your domains on the expanded promotion option. It takes work, you know, to list them, price them, answer the bogus inquiries, etc…. I’m just not sure it is worth it to me anymore and I am thinking about removing thousands of domains from them.
I’d like someone with a different experience, or positive experience, to chime in here and say they sell domains on a regular basis with Afternic.
I’d venture to guess there is NOBODY selling domains consistently on Afternic. And, I’d venture to guess that most of the “leads” they send you are fabricated.
Honestly, since I started complaining about these leads I consider to be fabricated, the leads stopped coming in almost 100%. Coincidence?
It all smells so fishy.
Andrew Allemann says
@ tim – I know Michael Berkens has sold a lot of nice names through them.
Neely says
Sedo is the way to go, IMHO.

Afternic has a nice set of connections with GoDaddy, NSI etc but I must say the overall service has slipped over the past year or more. Not a ton of offers coming in via Afternic on domains I have listed (I hear this a lot), problems using the service with FireFox which they are aware of but do not fix for some reason and the service has pretty much stayed out of the “news” as of late.
Pulling the vast majority of reported sales to others than a couple sources who only get a couple makes me scratch my head a bit as well.
@Andrew,
I think it is also fair to note that Micheal owns some near 70K domains.

I’ve both bought and sold names for a number of years and Afternic/BuyDomains has brought me the most buyers by far (vs. Sedo or Fabulous for example) I also use their SmartName for PPC revenue… not much there but no worse than any other site. The best names to sell are good two word combos. That’s mostly what BuyDomains.com has in its inventory. Price it between $1000 to $1500 to get the most bang for the buck.
ppc user says
So, the range that sells on afternic is $ 1K to $ 1.5K. for 2 word domains. I would assume keywords.
When they use to supply sales data, they use to sell a lot between $ 2K and $ 5K.
I guess those were NM domains.
Mike says
I think youre up against BuyDomains 2+ million dollar inventory of domain names that they most certainly will be trying to sell first. Those names have to get priority. Their (Afternic) service does suck. It seems like no one cares and at one time they were a great place to sell domains. I know that their domain traffic statistics is completely fabricated. I’ve pushed them over and over for a more detailed analysis of the traffic and question why the numbers dont add up and yet all they do is squirm as if I were holding a handful of worms in front of a 6 year old girl. Squirm, Squirm, Squirm instead of transparency, honesty and openness. Sort of like the Obama regime!
Tungsten Branding says
PPC… surprisingly these are not keyword names, but good “brandable” names. For example SpinDog.com or NativePlanet.com or DiscoveryTown.com. And the buyers are end users. Typically they are start up business owners and not domainers. Some names sell upwards of 2K.
Rudy says
I sell names on Afternic on a regular basis, and my experience is nothing but good. The sales team are professional and experienced and I listen to them when re-pricing my domains. @Tim – call with an open mind and not ready to argue, maybe you might see that to be competitive you might want to adjust your asking price.
ppc user says
I bet Berkins does not accept lowball offers when the BD salesman suggest to accept it.
Now, lets not confuse Afternic with AfternicDLS, they are totally different selling platforms.
Afternic is generally domainer to domainer sales.
AfternicDLS is suppose to be targeted towards endusers where a salesman assist the buyer in domain selection, price range and purchase.
I would speculate the Afternic average price is much below $ 1,000.
The AfternicDLS average price SHOULD be much higher since the seller is paying a 20% commission.
