German entity buys Schmuck.com domain name.
Sedo has sold the domain name Schmuck.com for 49,000 EUR, or roughly $66,000 at today’s exchange rates. Before you think it’s going to be some site about jerks or idiots, it looks like this may be a brand name in Germany, and it’s also a common surname.
Sedo broke the six figure barrier this past week with DolceVita.com selling for $120,000 to the shoe company of the same name, which got a nice upgrade to its existing domains (including ShopDolceVita.com and DolceVitaFootwear.com).
Another big sale was Pakistan.de for 65,450 EUR, or about $88,000 USD. I’m not quite sure what Pakistan has to do with Germany, but it could be a travel site.
Finally, take a look at the nice .org and .at sales below.

Hagen says
schmuck in german means the same as jewellery/jewelery in english
Andrew Allemann says
@ Hagen – that makes sense when you look at the current placeholder page. The buyer seems to be a materials company unrelated to jewelry, so we’ll have to see.
Michael Berkens says
These 3 were domains I sold:
duiattorney.org 35,000 USD
gearedup.com 14,000 USD
ilovelondon.com 10,000 USD
Andrew Allemann says
Fantastic sales, Michael.
Henry says
Andrew, Pakistan.de is open to many things including, travel like you suggested, trade in particular, socio-cultural board, an omnious political use I’ll rather not mention here and many others.

Thanks

sorry, i´ve had just checked the schmuck.de-domain. According to domaintools the owner of schmuck.com owns +1000 domains.
If it´s the same person, these domains should mainly deals with fabric-related issues
(www.stoffe-armbruester.de , http://www.lagerverkauf-stoffe.de , http://www.stoffgrosshandel.ch).
It seems that he is one of the persons who have recognized the potentials of domain-business and to be in funds.

Michael – Congratulations. I immediately went to the whois and saw “pending transfer” and your company listed. Fantastic sale. DUI Attorney is a very good keyword combo.

Schmuck in Hebrew has a much different meaning: שמוק

It freaks me out on these sales for domains that seem lame when I own at least 20 killer geo domains that I’m selling for under $2k.
Is it the Sedo promo ability? I have these domains at Snap, Afternic and Sedo. All of the make these domains that sold for over $5k look stupid.
Isn’t domain flipping a wonderful and intriguing game?
Josh says
Over the last several months the more I see these lists the more I feel the domain industry is in fine shape. One thing about a recession, fools and their money don’t seem to notice.
domain novice says
Stephen, I have experienced the same thing.
For example, if I had owned DUILawyer.org, I would have been lucky to get $ 2K.
If I would ask the experts like Latona how much TheThreads.com is worth. He would probably advised me – $ 50. It sold for $ 5K on Sedo.
I was told the best way to get a decent selling price on Sedo is to counter with an outragious price and then settle for 1/2.
Joseph Slabagh says
domain novice I am not sure, but I think I onl have had 1 sedo sale, and it was for a typo of vagina.org, i can’t remember the spelling. I had it listed for 100 EU, and one day I got an email from sedo with the note asking me to justify the asking price, and offering 80EU. It seems I had not noticed the previous email where he had offered 60EU. By ignoring that email, I got an extra 20EU for a reg-fee domain! Anyway as soon as I got that 2nd email I was like sold!
domain novice says
I agree. My Sedo results have been terrible for years.
And, BuyDomains selling platform is best for NameMedia domains.

In Germany schmuck means jewellery. So http://www.schmuck.com is a top domain. You can find exclusive jewellery und watches there.
