Taking a look at today’s live domain name auction.
The Rick Latona Auctions auction at TRAFFIC starts this afternoon at 4:30 ET. Bidding is available online at proxibid.com/ricklatona. Here are my thoughts on a handful of domains in the auction:
Acronyms.com $150,000 – this is the type of domain the folks behind Dictionary.com might buy. I’m not sure if they’d pay this much for it, and I don’t know that anyone else would be interested.
Ballwin.com $11,800 – I grew up in this part of St. Louis. This is a great domain name. My concern is that people who live in Ballwin don’t associate so much as living in this particular city as they do living in West County, which includes several other suburban cities such as Chesterfield.
Rio.com $400,000 – seems like a winner if someone with deep enough pockets shows up.
Boy.com $26,500 – not exactly sure what I’d do with it, but this seems like a great opening price. Expect multiple bidders.
BroadwayShows.com $850,000 – I’ll defer to this guy.
Lisbon.com $200,000 – another well priced city name.
SchoolLoans.com $100,000 – apparently makes $3,000 a month. If it does that without lifting a finger, the web site might be worth the price. But I suspect a little elbow grease and maintenance goes into it. The domain itself is solid.
Coed.com $45,000 – will someone buy this domain so I don’t have to see it in yet another auction?
Hell.com $1,200,000 – I think Christian.com is worth more than Hell.com, and it sold for $600,000.

Agree w/ Ballwin.com
I’m from Missouri too and there
are a lot of car dealerships there.
Not sure how much people refer to it as
Ballwin (as you said)
but that one caught my eye.

Well, Kasino will do well since it’s already met reserve. I think some of the 4 figure and low 5 figure names will move. There are some nice LLL.com’s in that price range for example. But yeah, there are far too many 6 figure reserves in this auction. I also think they did a poor job of pulling in “good” low end sales. I mean, several of the names that have a reserve of $xxx still don’t have any bids because honestly, WeddingProverbs.com is just not that great of a name.
Rio of course is at a great reserve and will go big… I’d personally give up at least one body part for that one myself. That name and maybe one or even two six figures sales is all they need though for the auction to be a success.

I like schoolloans.com as well. Wish I had the cash to pick it up.

I don’t think prebids are relevant here. If I want a domain, I’m not about to just prebid so everyone can see what I’m up to. I’d wait until the actual auction, wouldn’t you?
There are very good domains here and aside from the very high reserves which I doubt will see any action, we should see plenty of sales. Rio.com should have many bidders, the same thing goes for Boy.com, MeetingWomen.com, ActingLessons.com and at least 15-20 others. I see a 2 mil auction or more, will be interesting to watch

Adam,
I didn’t know you lived in Ballwin at one point. I live in Ballwin right now 🙂

Yeah, Prebids sound Lame to me.
