Adobe Direct Navigation FAIL

Dreamweaver.com forwards to the wrong URL.

I was researching web design software this morning. Knowing that Dreamweaver is one of the more popular applications, I typed Dreamweaver.com into my browser. Here’s what I saw:

Dreamweaver

Ouch.

Yes, Adobe owns the domain name Dreamweaver.com, but it forwards it incorrectly. The correct URL for information about Dreamweaver is adobe.com/products/dreamweaver.

It works correctly for http://www.dreamweaver.com, but leads to the 404 page without the “www” — just sloppy redirection.

George – I see, a common problem. I assume most techies using direct nav don’t type www, but maybe I’m wrong.

yes the very common canonicalization issue, most websites miss out on setting a canonical url, consequently miss out on passing on link juice and in this case also usability.
