Hotel-Reservation.com Domain Checks in for Over $200k

Hyphenated domain sale is a shocker.

Sedo has brokered the sale of Hotel-Reservation.com for a shocking 142,800 EUR, or about $208,000 USD at today’s exchange rate. This is certainly one of the most expensive hyphenated domain name purchases of all time. With nearly 700,000 global searches monthly for this term on Google (and 25 million for the plural version reservations), the SEO value of this domain is certainly high. Whois records show that the likely seller was DomCollect, and the buyer is Hotel Reservation Service GmbH. UPDATE: As pointed out by a reader below, DomCollect is owned by Sedo.

Separately, HotelsWashingtonDC.com sold for a strong $22,000. That domain appears to have been purchased by Graham Easton of SwiftRank.com, a company that creates optimized travel portals.

Other notable sales include 34.com for $68,000 and ElectricGuitars.com for $42,700.

HRS has spent lots of money on domain names lately. They have also been the buyer of Hotel-Reservierung.de ($34,510) and WellnessHotels.com (€41,650). All of these sales were brokered by Sedo, too, which apparently has a good contact at HRS.

Awesome sale! Great job Sedo! My concern is much of the traffic will go the un-hyphenated domain. Estibot only appraises it at $8.4k!! based on traffic, etc. The hotel business is very solid and lucrative business with rooms on average costing $100++ per night. Hotel related domains are an excellent 24 hour sales machine and semantic names seem to be improving in value everyday. I own HotelRooms dot de and will consider serious proposals for it. Estibot appraises it at $160k! Please excuse the shameless self promotion but……

@ Andrew, find me an acceptable deal and I will provide a very nice thankyou.$$
    Best.

Very nice sale indeed for a hyphen :) I have’nt heard of a higher one but I bet there are a few out there that went unreported.

    Is’nt domcollect a subsidiary of Sedo ?

Gazzip -you’re right, they’re owned by Sedo. I updated the post.

“Is’nt domcollect a subsidiary of Sedo.”

Ahh…. things are becoming clearer know. Maybe that explains why they low-balled me on mine. Thanks for the head’s up.

A shocker indeed. Hope yet, then, for my search-holidays.com

tarife.org also has a meaning in german language as tariffs.

And let me guess about dextro.com: Unilever plc. will be the new owner, as they still own dextro.at/.ch/.de/.info

    Ahoi!

Wish I had some hotel relate domains, these have been a hot ticket item lately. Usually you see a big sale go like pizza.com and next thing you know there are nothing but listings of pizza related domains that don’t sell. In this case it seems if you have a hotel domain it’s time to cash it in.

Hotel, Apartment and Accommodation related domains are generally hot assets if you know how to monetize them properly. People are constantly looking for a short term daily rental or hotel in any major city worldwide.

So if you know what you are doing, you will make some money. I’ve generated about 30,000 dollars in bookings for LondonApartment.tv over the last 9 months. I’m looking to develop HotelAccommodation.tv and HotelAccommodation.tel anytime soon.

    for the record…
HotelsWashingtonDC dot com was part of a bulk sale of 56 names.

  12. September 15th, 2009 | 2:03 am

DomCollect also have been hoovering up .co.uk domains – they are also connected with the Registrar Fasthosts/UKReg – expired domains nameservers revert to DomCollect and they are picking up some of the high traffic ones on the drop.
We are investigating to see if this is against .uk registry policies/UK Law…

Peter – so all 56 domains totaled that amount or this was just the price for the one domain?

    @Andrew
If you look at domainstate.com you’ll see that the price for HotelsWashingtonDC dot com was supposedly mid $x,xxx, presumably meaning that the whole package was $22k. It would be interesting to know which other domains were included.

  15. September 15th, 2009 | 1:56 pm

jj – I saw that. If I read it correctly, that means this was one of the more valuable domains in the lot, and many of them were $xxx domains.

Game.pro? I didn’t know there was an extension called .pro. That’s a seriously cool domain.
