Live.cc Domain Name Posts $10,000 Bid at Sedo

Domain would be one of the most expensive .cc domain names ever sold.

Long before .me, .tv, and .ws were commercialized, the big rage of country code domain names was .cc. .CC is the country code domain for the Cocos islands, an Australian territory.

A bidder on Sedo has placed a bid at $10,000 for Live.cc, which may be the largest amount ever paid for a .cc domain, save for a publicity stunt in 2000.

NameBio shows three other sales of .cc domains over $5,000: Poker.cc for $6,802, and Ringtones.cc and Co.cc for $5,00 each.

Back in 2000, before the dotcom bubble burst, there was a wave of interest in the country code after GreatDomains supposedly brokered the sale of Beauty.cc for $1,000,000. People were in disbelief, and had every reason to be. (This was many years before Sedo bought GreatDomains.)

As it turns out, the deal was $200,000 cash plus $800,000 in stock at a generous valuation, reported L.A. Weekly. And even at that, the buyer and seller had a pre-existing business and ownership relationship, which made the deal seem like one big publicity stunt to put some hot air in .cc.

there are many .cc domains sold for much more than $10,000.
    Some examples
cc.cc sold for $30,000, I believe that it was reported in dnjournal.com 1-2 years ago.
recently 8.cc was sold for over
    118,500 Chinese RMB (over $15,000).

I’m with Steve’s first post. (people, please distinguish that although I allow you to call me “Steve” verbally, I only “print” my name as “Stephen”, never “Steve.

Back to the .cc… Dang if i didn’t sell a few one word killer .cc domains back in 2007. I got none left. I liked them. I love that extension, plus the .ws extension. I’m going to search for some deals in those extensions again,

(FACT: RoJack was selling hundreds of sweet domains with these extensions back five years ago on Afternic Bazaar, and I bought at least 10 from him. Most I’ve sold for a nice profit… but maybe I acted too hastily! There is one .cc I wish I had back! Thanks anyway, RoJack!)

Anyone have experience *developing* a .cc or .ws?

Assuming a pure keyword domain like bluewidgets.cc, curious if there’s a TLD penalty in GYM vs. .com/.net/.org given the same content quality. And how do they compare to .info/.biz?

@steve — “TDNAM.com”? What is that? Are they trustworthy? I have a weird feeling buying expired or auctioned names from a company that doesn’t have a nice brand or generic descriptive domain.

TDNAM — sounds like an acronym for touchdowns scored by Vietnamese football teams…

I agree..Dot CC is a good extension, but DOT FM is better. Their appraisal value is always higher. And, it is also easy to remember. I think if you have a one word generic domain, DOT FM should be up there.

Hey Bruce, did you even read the article? About 60% of it is devoted to Beauty.cc. The sale was a joke.

@SL – Click on the link called “WHYPARK” on this website’s right sidebar. Then sign up for a free account. Then move your nonTLD’s over to WhyPark and start building them out.
