Moniker’s Live Domain Auction Looks Like a Winner

Moniker meets the challenge with superb list of domain names.

My general response to a list of domain names published for a live domain auction is usually subdued. Rarely do I see domain names that are priced to sell.

But after taking plenty of flack for its last auction, Moniker seems to have stepped up to the plate for this month’s TRAFFIC auction. (See a full list of domains in the auction here.)

In the under $5,000 category, there are a number of good domains that will easily sell:

IntelligentDesign.com
MouthGuards.com (sold for over $10k at NameJet)
Reimbursement.com
Sued.com

At $5,000-$10,000 there are more great domain names such as BuildingPermits.com and Cancun.org.

I don’t expect the live auction to set any records, but it’s encouraging to see a good list of domain names with reasonable reserve prices.

My only complaint is that Moniker accepted way too many domain names for its silent auction. It makes me question if I should sell my domains in the silent auction if they will be competing against so many other domains for attention.

5,000 plus names in the silent auction will present a good buying opportunity for those that spend some time researching those names. As you said, many might not get noticed in such a massive list.

I think that 5000 names are too many for the silent auction.

Again if people do the work to find the name they want then great but I think many names shall go unsold in the silent auction.

Great to see the live auction having real low reserves on many great names just what we need and should have had for the past two traffic shows.

I actually like the large number of names in the silent auction…because most are priced very reasonably…and it makes it easier for folks to find at least one that they build a new (or existing) business on.

Only take a few “extra” minutes to go through the entire list…no big deal; especially for those who DO want to build businesses on it/them.

“These are all in the auction at no reserve.”

KD, you are part of the problem with auctions, flooding the list with domains that have very little value.
The few I checked are less than 6 months old.

And, Moniker is also careless to permit someone to flood the list. Why doesn’t Moniker have a limit on how many domains someone can submit?

I agree! Great domains for this auction! Living in LA, I really like moviemaking.com – it’s a bargain for the price advertised.

I’ll see you all at the auction!

This is by far the best quality, best priced list of domains that I have seen since we started the online and live auction segment in 1999. The reason the extended auction list is so large is because there were so many good quality names submitted at the right prices to drive interest.

I predict that the extended auction will be as big or bigger than the live auctions in the very near future. DomainFest extended auction results were almost that of the Live event making the whole event successful. I foresee the same here.

The live list is filled with very good domains priced right to drive interest and bidding. Like you said Andrew, we are not looking to set a total sales record here and adjusted our strategy to provide the right names at the right prices in this economy!

there should be a ton of action during both the online live and extended auctions from those not attending the conference.

Thank you for the positive feedback!

Monte, will the SnapNames interface have categories in time for this auction? That would make it easier for people to sift through the 5,000 silent auction names to find the ones that interest them.

  12. April 15th, 2009 | 10:22 am

We are making categories available on the download excel file shortly. in the near future this search feature will be available on SnapNames as well…but if you have it on the download, you can easily sort then enter the domains you want to bid on.

We will be back to update the improvements when they are going to happen.

How much do you think sued.com will sell for great name huge market for this domain name

  14. April 20th, 2009 | 11:27 pm

My domain originally registered in 1999 (www.cidermills.com) was accepted into this Moniker Live auction. The sale also includes the web site. Currently this earns around $1000 in annual advertising revenue. This also has much more potential to earn more. Reserve is only $5000.

    Warm Regards,
