Domain broker launches Twitter service.
Sure, Mystery Domain Auction shut down and no one has been able to replicate the success of the original Million Dollar Homepage concept. But one entrepreneur is trying his hand at raising $1 million through Twitter.
1MillionTweets.com charges users $1 to submit a tweet through it’s account. It hopes to sell one million tweets to people trying to advertise their services and web sites.
It may work, if people follow @1milliontweets on Twitter. It just launched this morning and has 178 followers so far. Within hours it had 16 paying tweeters. A little bit of media buzz could get this thing going. 10% of the proceeds will be donated to charity.
The site is the brain child of entrepreneur and domain broker Blair Cummins. I met Cummins out in San Francisco a few years ago, and he helped me flip a domain I bought at BuyDomains for $5,000. (He sold it for about $25,000.)
And, as any savvy domainer would do, Cummins has also registered OneMillionTweets.com.

Nice idea but I don’t think it will gonna be as successful as milliondollarhomepage.com. But still nice try 🙂

$1million retweets would be better 🙂

One million paid spam ads??? I’ll just open my email client and it’s just as bad.

I don’t think it will take off like milliondollarhomepage.com. And I’m sure there are a bunch of copycats already. But I give him props for the idea.

Very spammy in my opinion. My twitter account is getting flooded with requests of random people wanting to follow me.
I don’t get why anyone would want to ‘follow’ this. Lots of sites attempting to monetize twitter are popping up. Twitter must take control…Myspace took too long to stop these practices and too many of its users got turned off.

Bruno, I see what you’re saying. But if someone follows you it’s not like you automatically follow them, right? I learned my lesson early on when I started following people who tweeted every 10 minutes. If it wasn’t relevant, I just unfollowed them.

spam, get rich quick scam. twitter better not allow this!
Andrew Allemann says
So far only $46. The problem is keeping followers, since most followers don’t want to see so many random tweets.
