I don't see any problem from here :) Let's face it, 99% of this is backlash from the fact that very few city.coms are owned by their respective city's CVB, Chamber or city governments, but they have no one to blame but themselves. Way back when, they were listening to their webmasters who assured them they already had "assigned" names (remember those?) and when they could have bought their names for a song (every Geo owner I know have sold their names for 100K each in 1997-98), again they were told by their webmasters that "no domain is worth that much." Sounds like a mess.

E.g. Halfway renamed themselves as Half.com, and another town in Texas renamed itself "DISH" (for Dish Networks). How many towns will rename themselves "Sex", "Store", "Shop", "Casino", "Games", "XXX", etc. to game the system? Do remember that towns have renamed themselves. E.g.
