New service seems wildly overpriced. Am I missing something?
I just read GoDaddy’s October sales letter (not really a newsletter as they call it), and read the fine print on the 20% off $75 coupon it offered. One of the exclusions is for “CashParking Custom Header“. Curious, I visited the GoDaddy web site to learn more.
Essentially, GoDaddy will create a custom header for your parked domain. Price? $99.
Am I missing something here? First, GoDaddy is the only parking service I know of that charges you to park. This could actually be worth your money if you buy the higher payout service. But $99 to put a custom header on your parked page? You can buy custom headers for web sites for much less than that. I suspect very few people parking domain names with GoDaddy earn even $99 per year with any one parked domain.
Add to that the fact that these headers look no better than many of the category templates at most domain parking companies, and I really have to wonder what is going on here.
Here are some examples of GoDaddy custom headers:

Godaddy doesn’t get domainers. They have done some really silly stuff, like the non-ICANN compliant way of locking domains from transferring out if you make a single change to a domain (like updating a phone number in whois). They also have a history of being pretty heavy-handed and non-apologetic in taking domains away from owners, including non-response to whois verification requests (which I understand they now just disable the dns).

GoDaddy’s behavior as described here is the main reason why I’ve never trusted that company. Every time I buy a domain that is registered with GoDaddy, I move it out as soon as possible.
GD is a large registrar, so one would think they earn enough money from domain registration services, but GoDaddy.com seems to be more interested in finding new ways of extracting money from their clients’ pockets.
After all, no experienced domainer would pay $99 for such a header or pay anything at all for having their domains parked to begin with… It is GoDaddy’s business to make money from the missing knowledge of their client base, in my opinion. They trick customers into believing that with a $99 header their domains might finally start producing income.
Another example of the company’s unequaled greed is GoDaddy’s infamous “60-day no transfer-out” policy.

GoDaddy just rips people off. I dont even like to buy domains there and will include the transfer out as part of deal in most cases.
