.Me Domain Name Auctions to Last a Loooong Time

Bids in final 24 hours extend auctions by 24 hours.

I haven’t been paying much attention to the .me domain name auctions, but Michael Berkens has. Some of the domains are being bid up rather high, including Insure.me (135 bids, $26,130), Hug.me (74 bids, $13,016), Secure.me (93 bids, $7,540) and Portland.me (230 bids, $6,151).

When will the auctions end? It could be a very, very long time before we find out. You see, the .me auctions get extended if there are last minute bids. If by last minute you mean “last 1,440 minutes”. That’s right. If any bids are placed in the final 24 hours the auctions get extended by another 24 hours.

Apparently “the reason the time was set to extend for 24 hours is to give a fair chance to all bidders as this auction is open world wide,” a service rep wrote to me.

Most domain auction services extended time by a few minutes if there are last second bids, but 24 hours? Wow. I wonder what’s more likely to happen: a bidder drops out of an auction because the price gets to high or because he gets tired of logging in every frickin’ day to place a bid.

If you have dropped out, congratulations on not wasting your money.

    They can’t fool me.

The real intent with these long extensions is that they want as many “old” domainer/ enduser buyers as possible to die off before they’re able to get any .mes…leaving all the high prices (not high value) priced ones for the younger crowd.

    Domain age discrimination.

Had to happen some day. :-)

    Bunch of suckers.

i think you have to buy some .me’s

as a trader you read the market, EVERYBODY, even those who could make affiliate chi-chi off .me is saying it stinks. so the expectations are low, and pricing is fair.
    thats a buy.

godaddy i belive is softpeddling becuase they still might get sued by everybody pissed off, becuase they say godaddy “said” the mobis would be worth a bunch.

the domainers dont like it… but maybe just maybe the public will. i bought about 130 and we’ll see what happens.

Page, I think you can make some money on this extension. I’d just stay away from most of these domains in the auction…doesn’t seem like much opportunity to profit on them after a very competitive auction.

But we’ll see…too early to tell. One big ad campaign by a major company using a .me will help.

I have some me domains too but i have no idea what they could be worth. So maybe here are some people who could help me with that. I own: everytime.me featuring.me hassle.me mister.me alcoholic.me. What do you think they are worth?

    Cheers Chris

I think the verbs, and nouns used as verbs will have and keep the highest value. Remember that only those who had a landrush application in can take part in the current bidding at auctions.domain.me… so as soon as the winner is assigned the domain, we may see it on the market again.

There are already .me’s on the aftermarket sites, some ridiculously priced, while others are asking more appropriate figures.

Looking back and forth from the Me registry auctions to tdnam.com auctions, for example, if bring.me has active bidders at 8,005, you’d think dye.me will go pretty quick at 1,999. wretch.me at 45k, on the otherhand looks quite a bit overpriced.

I don’t understand auctions.domain.me - There is an option to log but you can’t create an account?! Is this a special VIP type deal or what?

Matt, I believe you had to sign up for a domain prior to the auctions starting.

    Matt, see my post above…

The next round of auctions supposedly starts month for the premium names. Waiting to see what domains like love.me, call.me, sexy.me fetch. Should be a good benchmark for the holders of alternate forms: loving.me, calling.me, sexually.me, etc!

Hm.. my Domain hassle.me today was sold for 200 USD on Sedo. Too cheap!?

Gommez, was that in a Sedo auction? If so, I wouldn’t argue it’s too cheap. A lot of people had a look at it.

  17. August 28th, 2008 | 4:44 pm

Yes it was on sedo (.de, but you see it on sedo.com too). Yesterday predict.me was sold for 1950 USD on sedo, so i hoped i would get more than 200 but :-( Ok i have featuring.me, everytime.me, alcoholic.me and mister.me in my portfolio … we will see!

  18. August 29th, 2008 | 12:14 am

I have some LLL .me’s on sedo- lots of views of offers (30-40) but no bites yet. I think everyone is waiting to see how the premium auctions shake out, and if any major corporations put up .me sites.

I agree with Mark Kolb’s statement above regarding the premium auctions and valuations. It will give more clarity on what different variatios are worth, and may help identify potential buyers as well. ie- offer your loving.me to the buyer of love.me

    and I own splain.me
