@ Patrick, I agree with Frank that having your own registry makes sense. But keep in mind that Franks multi-million dollar portfolio has hundreds of thousands of domains. This guy had in the hundreds. And owning a registrar comes with its own headaches and regulations.

"I talked to someone with a multi-million dollar portfolio. We were talking about the troubles at a particular registrar. It suddenly hit them. “Wait,” he said. “You don’t think my domains are in danger, do you?"

Hi Andrew,

I guess that "multi-million dollar portfolio" owner never read the SevenMile.com blog where
Frank preaches having your own Registrar so YOU control your own domain portfolio.

Not practical for your average domainer...but
he sounds like a perfect candidate.

Wow, Marchex off 14% so far today. No news I can see, so I wonder if they're about to miss earnings or something.

This is why when I pick up register.com expired names off snapnames I immediately transfer them out to a more trustworthy and economically stable registrar.

It is a pain in the ass to call them and go through their insane process to get the auth code but once the name is away from register.com i sleep alot better!
