Auction for Webmasters.org domain name hits $38,000.
A listing for Webmasters.org on the SitePoint forums is attracting bidders. The price has been pushed up to $16,000 $37,000 $38,000 after being listed on July 5.
I talked to owner Chad Horstman this afternoon. He thinks the buyer will be “People that are actually looking to develop it rather than as an investment or parking.” He continued, “It has strong aged in-bound links, which is important for SEO. It’s never been parked before as far as I know. It’s only been through two owners.” The home page for Webmasters.org currently sports a PR 7 according to the Google Toolbar.
Horstman bought the site from the original owner a few years ago. He’s tried to develop a site around it but says it has never taken off. The domain currently hosts a discussion forum.
Horstman decided to list the domain name on SitePoint because he thinks it will appeal to SitePoint’s users, which tend to be webmasters and site developers rather than domainers.
The closest comparable sale I can find is Webmaster.nl, which sold for close to $16,000 USD equivalent in 2007. Other high value .org domain sales
