Vista.com Sells for $1.25M

Business card and printing company buys domain from software company.

Vista.com has sold for $1.25M. So, did Microsoft buy it for its Vista operating system? No. The domain was purchased by VistaPrint Limited (Nasdaq: VPRT). VistaPrint is famous for its free business card offers.

Software as a Service company Innuity sold the domain. Innuity was known as Vista until 2005. When it changed its name to Innuity it started sending Vista.com traffic to VistaPrint through an advertising arrangement.

It’s always a nice windfall for companies when a sale like this happens. I’ve talked to many small business owners who have used domains for businesses and products. When they no longer need the domain, they’ve cashed it in for a nice payday. This amount is often times more than the business or product line was worth.

The sale of the domain also included the trademark for VISTA.

According to DNJournal’s year-to-date sales charts, this is the fourth largest sale of the year. The top three sales are Porn.com ($9.5M), Seniors.com ($1.8M), and Tandberg.com ($1.5M).
