Domain registrar’s aftermarket sales grow 265%, led by live domain name auctions.
Domain name registrar Moniker today announced a record year for its domain name brokerage operations. The company saw its brokering of existing domains jump 265% compared to 2005. Much of this boost was due to successful live domain name auctions, including the recent auction at the TRAFFIC conference in Florida.
In addition to the live domain auctions, Moniker sold ON.com (sale price $635,000), FlashGames.com ($226,950) and Ant.com ($241,200). Including the live auctions, Moniker brokered over a third of the top 100 publicly announced sales of 2006.
The company’s domain registration business is also growing. Moniker is now the ninth largest registrar in terms of domains under management. The company now has 1.8M domains registered compared to nearly half that at the end of 2005. Moniker has been courting domain portfolio owners and offers aggressive pricing to big domainers. The company even offers to stretch out payments on large blocks of transferred domains. Don’t be surprised to see Moniker jump up further in the rankings in 2007.
Moniker was acquired in August by Kanoodle and is part of a renamed company called Seevast.
