Domain Registrar Moniker Gets a Facelift

Moniker has updated its web site for easier nagivation; the new version is more targeted to it core types of customers.

Usability of most domain name registrars’ web sites is pitiful. Ordering a single domain takes a long time and a lot of clicks, and managing a portfolio of 1,000 domains gives many users a migraine.

Perhaps registrars are getting the message. GoDaddy recently upgraded its account management interface, and now registrar Moniker has performed a facelift.

The new Moniker.com home page has a much simpler design than before and is easier to navigate. There are quick links for Moniker’s four main constituents: domainers, marketers, corporations, and investors. The page also highlights two of Moniker’s key products: TrafficClub, its domain parking service, and Moniker’s new Marketplace Pro.

One of the best things about the new design is something that has been deleted: the web search box. It always perplexed me why there was a “search the web” box on Moniker’s page. From a usability perspective, I imagine a lot of people accidentally typed a URL they wanted to register into that box rather than the registration box.

Moniker also lowered its list price for domain registration to $9.95. Large portfolio owners can get domain prices as low as $6.95 for .com domains.
