Yes, Vint clearly said it as a joke -- hard to translate how he said it to a blog :)

It says a lot that Vint reached out to a group that he doesn't necessarily have as much experience with (being the large part of the audience that consisted of domainers).

I had an opportunity to talk with Vint prior to the speech, and he is really a kind and personable man, who wouldn't have said something like that in a harmful way. The whole 'asshole' comment thing was meant in play from my perspecive, and was said in fun.

The hundereds of participants in the audience who witnessed the interaction would also opine this, but the reference wasn't specifically to me, and I was not in any way offended or feel put out by it.

As I sincerely stated, is was an honor to have Vint join the Roundtable to speak, and it was an experience I won't forget, plus it was cool to hear, for me and for many of the people in the keynote, about the origins and misgivings of where Gore did make helpful strides in the network interconnections early on to drive the evolution of the internet.

No apology needed, no harm, no foul. :)

If everywhere Mr. Cerf goes there is some one "who makes fun of Gore’s statement" then maybe Cerf is the one that should be called and asshole for not recognizing that Gore did make that statement.

That he praised Gore's efforts, does not help Mr. Cerf at all. It is obvious that he voted for Gore and is still sore that he lost!

Seems to me an apology is in order to Mr. Frakes.

It was a joke Mr.Cerf, lighten up!
