Survey: NameDrive top Domain Parking Service

Newcomer NameDrive took top honors in the 2006 Domain Name Wire Survey.

[Editors note: this is the fifth in a series of posts with results from the 2006 Domain Name Wire survey. The complete results of the survey will be posted soon.]

NameDrive took 14% of the vote for the most popular domain parking service, edging out top players like Sedo and DomainSponsor. NameDrive has a great user interface, a number of attractive pay-per-click templates, and almost instantaneous keyword updating.

A lot of people will debate the survey results for this topic because people have different experiences with the various parking services. Having been at this for as long as I have, I think the key is to try out several parking services to find out which one works best for your portfolio. Some work best for type-in domains, others work best for residual traffic domains. The key to the game is to test, test, and then test again.

Q: Which parking service is your favorite?

Name Drive 14%
Sedo 13%
Domain Sponsor 13%
Domain Hop 12%
GoldKey 9%
Fabulous 8%
ParkingSite 6%
Sedo Pro 6%
Traffic Club 4%
Skenzo 4%
Traffic Parking 4%
Traffic Z 3%
Parking Dots 3%
Traffic Valet 2%

It’s no surprise that Sedo and DomainSponsor are also on top of the list as they consistently deliver. GoldKey is a parking service that gained a lot of notoriety last year when domainers found its Overture feed and search engine optimization features to generate high RPMs. Alas, these quickly dropped and the service’s popularity waned.

What’s in store for domain name parking in 2006? As people involved in the domain name industry we’re a bit biased. But:
- 57% of respondents think their revenue per 1,000 page views will increase in 2006
- 27% think it will stay about the same
- 16% think it will be lower than 2005

Those 16% might be part of the group that’s worried about fallout in the pay-per-click market. More on that later!

Well, Sedo should be named #1 in the headline then, with Sedo + SedoPro getting 19% combined… anyway, I am a big fan of Sedo, they monetize my domains really well.

Thomas, that’s a good point. I’m a fan of Sedo as well. As I mention in the post, it’s important to try out a number of parking services. It’s also important to consider developing mini sites for some of your domains. I’ve had domains that pull in 10x with mini sites compared to parking.

Agree 100%. NameDrive Rocks. Have been researching Domain Parking for a long time and name Drive – although a new player is fantastic Domain Parking Service. Fast and clean user-interface and control panel. There are certain aspect to the domain parking that may suggest parking elswhere for very specific reasons but overall you cant go wrong with NameDrive. Robert Fleege

This is obviously a bullshit survey of idiot domainers. Any group that has Domain Hop near the top of their favorites is clearly dominated by a bunch of morons :-)

That website is probably run by 1 guy who is just trying to make a couple of extra bucks a month from the advertising revenue. If DNForum did a survey, I’m sure that others such as Trafficz would be 1 of the top-rated services.

I can personally tell you that my friends and I love TrafficZ!!!!!!! Also, I did my own survey and 99% of the people chose TrafficZ, all except for 1 guy who chose Domain Hop :-)

V, I certainly appreciate your opinion. Domain Hop, however, is actually run by Kanoodle, a major internet advertising company. Although I personally have more success with other parking services, there are some domains that perform rather well on DomainHop, so it’s only natural that it gets some votes. And by the way, about half of the participants in the survey are active users of DNForum :)

I wouldn’t trust TrafficZ, owned by Galt Networks known for stealing. Stolen articles and designs in the past and will steal your revenues too.

oviously, the best being only 16%, they all suck for one reason or another.

sure seems no one wants to address the real issue…

what should really be the poll is … Which Parking Service screws you the best?

wouldn’t it be the — if some these places they get a lot of attn, such as the domain fourms, pulled together and implemented a month long boycott of 1st, one PPC, then next month, another PPC… tll they went thru all the bigger ones.

think about how many domains are controlled by domainers and what each of the parking services would lose from boycott.

they would either have to get better or go under.

    BTW… dnoa.org
“The Domain Name Owners Association is a trade association of domain name buyers, sellers and owners of all types dedicated to the advancement of the domain name industry through the building of trust and professionalism of its members.

What can you expect when dealing with a DNOA member?

Honesty, integrity, and a professional transaction. ”

Far as a I can tell as big or bigger a sham then the PPC’s

So, now, how about run off and do a poll that relaly amounts to something instead of a poll which we all already new but still condone via continued use of such crappy PPC’s

    NameDrive the best!
    :D

  11. April 18th, 2006 | 6:49 pm

I agree, Namedrive is very good.

  12. April 21st, 2006 | 1:44 pm

Namedrive, I trust. The rest however have proven to be dishonest and personally they really should be wearing a mask, as they are nothing short of highway robbers.

Sedo is seriously flawed, I am not a religous man but I do pray that they get exposed for the charlatans they are.

If it wasnt for the backing on United Internet, they would be NOTHING.

Hi there, when i had deleted one of my domain that i had parked with SEDO. The morning later i got an email like below. And i suspect that the email was sent by SEDO. After that i had deleted all of my domain from SEDO.

    —————–
    Hello,

Please send me price for your domain.

We are very interested in this name.

Did you get offers from other people already?

Our company develops client-server systems (Delphi / Interbase), so
investing in domain names is not my main business.

Looking forward to do business with you.

    Best regards,

Namedrive.com is great! I fully agree 100% I tried out sedo and afternic, frankly i think they suck! They remind me of the Fascist Bush admin. I don’t know how sedo got any votes, unless they were voting themselves…

  19. May 22nd, 2006 | 12:01 pm

Part of Sedo’s problem is they force you down to subdomain level. If you want to submit to directories, you’re screwed. Namedrive is decent, and I’m trying out a few at Smartname. Has anyone tried them?
