LiveDoor Raided

Domain registrar and portfolio owner LiveDoor has been raided by Japanese authorities.

LiveDoor, a large internet company based in Tokyo, was raided by Japanese authorities on suspicion of violation of securities laws by giving false information. This development is a large part of the story behind the massive two day drop in Japan’s stock market.

A recent DNJournal cover story discusses Matias de Tezanos, a Guatemala resident who sold a portfolio of domains (through his company ClickDario) to LiveDoor. Among the Spanish-language domains included in the transaction were Deportes.com (Sports), Salud.com (Health), Mujer.com (Women), Mascotas.com (Pets), Boletines.com (Newsletters), Dietas.com (Diets), and Tarjetas.com (Greeting Cards).

Additionally, LiveDoor is an accredited domain registrar. I had a couple domains with LiveDoor that I won in auction drops at NameWinner. Managing the domains was a nightmare, mostly because LiveDoor created a basic english-language management tool on top of its Japanese registration service. I couldn’t transfer the domains out without enlisting the assistance of NameWinner.
