Casino.ws sold at Sedo for $1,500 — not bad for a .ws domain.
Let’s face it. .Ws domain names haven’t traded hands for tons of money. But savvy internet marketers realize the value of a good keyword CC TLD. Sedo just completed the sale of Casinos.ws for $1,500. I imagine that Casino.ws would sell for a bit more. This sets a good standard for popular keywords like Mortgage.ws, Loans.ws, etc. Other top .ws sales include:
WhoIs.ws – £2,610 (November 2004)
Webcams.ws – €2,300 (June 2005)
Steroids.ws – $2,100 (April 2004)
Wellness.ws – €1,200 (July 2005)
Webcam.ws – $1,300 (June 2005)
Ranking.ws – $1,300 (March 2005)
Vogelgrippe.ws – €1,000 (November 2005)
Green.ws – $1,250 (June 2005)
Lyrics.ws – $1,000 (November 2003)

.Ws is the country code domain for the tiny island nation of Samoa, deep in the South Pacific. Much like the .TV domain, a company worked with Samoa to market the domain on a worldwide scale using the idea that it’s an abbreviation for “Web Site”. You can register .ws domains at many registrars. One drawback is that they can’t be transferred between registrars. For this reason, I recommend registering them at GoDaddy which charges only $9.99 per year (other registrars charge three times that amount).
I’ve found .ws domains to be a good marketing tool. For under $100 you can buy great single-keyword domains. I picked up Beds.ws on open registration for $9.99. My other .Ws domains include Ethernet.ws, Guys.ws, Revenue.ws, and Support.ws.
