Expired domain name market consolidation

Is Enom’s Club Drop doomed? Can Pool.com survive?

According to DNJournal, expired domain heavyweight SnapNames has signed an exclusive agreement with Register.com to snap its expiring domains. SnapNames already has a similar agreement with Network Solutions. Since these were the two large early registrars, they have some of the best expiring domains. Now Pool, Club Drop, et al can’t get their hands on these great expiring domains.

GoDaddy’s domains are dropped through its exclusive service, TDNAM. Dotster’s domains drop through its NameWinner service.

So what’s left for Enom and Pool to catch? Well, Enom is one of the web’s largest domain name resellers. But most of its domains are registered by domain name pros that won’t let good domains drop.

As more and more of these exclusive deals are announced I have to wonder if the question isn’t if there will be consolidation in the expiring domain market, but when.
